A story of my Grandmothers ring

A story of my Grandmothers ring

We love a good story…

  • I received this ring after my Grandmother past away that had a lot of nostalgic
significance. It was a birthstone ring that my Grandfather had specially made for my
Grandmother with the four birthstones of her four children. My Grandparents never had much
money, so this was a very special show of the love my Grandfather had for my Grandmother and
his children. My uncle even remembers going to pick the ring up with my Grandfather as a boy
and how special the gift was to my Grandmother. For years the ring sat in my jewelry box as it
was too big and as much as I appreciated the nostalgia of it, it wasn’t totally my style as it was.
I met Diana at Porini Gems through a great friend of mine and found out that she mines
and sells Tsavorite, which just so happens to be an iteration of my birthstone Garnet. This gave
me a great idea! Since this ring was a birthstone ring what would be more perfect than
replacing the current stones with my own birthstone? This would elevate a beauful heirloom
into something even more valuable and precious to me. Before my trip to Kenya, I had my
jeweler measure the stones to be sure we got the right size stone cut. I also had him repurpose
the old stones into Christmas gifts for my aunts, uncle, and my father. During my 10 day vacation
to the beautiful country of Kenya, Diana worked tirelessly to make sure the Tsavorite stones
arrived before the vacation ended. I couldn’t be more happy with my experience working with
Diana and how beautiful the stones look in the finished product. I now wear this ring almost
everyday and love that I am able to think fondly of not only my Grandmother and Grandfather
but of my trip to Kenya and the wonderful experiences that I had.
